THE REGION
Quinta das Águas is situated in the midst of the Costa Vicentina where you will find some of Portugal’s best beaches. The closest and most deserted beaches are Vale do Homens and Barradinha and those with long strips of sand are Amoreira and Odeceixe. But the region does not live from beaches alone. In the Costa Vicentina you can make full use of the rich and grandiose nature. Outdoor activities and sports find no better place to be enjoyed and the St Vincent’s Trail with its wonderful walks passes right through the region. Surfing, BTT, donkey rides or horse riding, kayaking down the river Seixe... are but a few examples of the many activities that can be enjoyed.
As far as local sites and monuments are concerned, you can visit churches, the Arrifana fortress and Aljezur Castle, as well as a number of museums and archaeological sites.
The local food is based on fresh fish (sargo and sea bass) seafood (the unavoidable goose barnacles, crab, mussels…), the region’s meat and sausages and vegetables, such as the famous Aljezur Sweet Potato (product with protected geographical indication).
